Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with Night Owl Protect in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Create an Account

Open Night Owl Protect app
Tap Create Account
Enter your email address
Create a strong password (minimum 8 characters)
Verify your email

Tip

Use a password manager to generate and store a secure password.

Step 2: Enable 2-Step Verification

For enhanced security, we strongly recommend enabling 2-Step Verification:

Go to Settings → Security
Tap Enable 2-Step Verification
Choose your verification method:
- SMS - Receive codes via text message
- Authenticator App - Use Google Authenticator or similar
- Email - Receive codes via email
Complete the setup process

Warning

Save your backup codes in a secure location. You’ll need them if you lose access to your verification method.

Step 3: Add Your First Device

Option A: Scan QR Code (Recommended)

Tap the + button on the home screen
Select Scan QR Code
Point your camera at the QR code on your Night Owl device
Wait for the connection to establish
Name your device and assign it to a location

Option B: Manual Setup

Tap the + button
Select Manual Setup
Enter the Device ID (found on the device label)
Enter the device password (default or your custom password)
Configure connection settings

Step 4: Configure Basic Settings

After adding your device, configure these essential settings:

Video Quality

Go to device settings
Select Video Quality
Choose based on your internet speed:
- Auto (Recommended)
- High (1080p) - 5+ Mbps
- Medium (720p) - 2-5 Mbps
- Low (480p) - Under 2 Mbps

Notification Preferences

Enable/disable motion alerts
Set quiet hours
Choose notification sounds

Step 5: Live View

You’re all set! Tap on any camera to view the live feed:

Pinch to zoom - Zoom in/out on the video
Tap and hold - Access quick actions
Swipe left/right - Switch between cameras
Double tap - Toggle fullscreen
