Adding Devicesο
Add new cameras and recorders to your Night Owl Protect account.
Before You Beginο
Ensure you have:
β Night Owl Protect app installed
β Account created and verified
β Device powered on
β Device connected to network (for NVR/DVR)
β WiFi password ready (for wireless cameras)
Adding via QR Code (Recommended)ο
The fastest way to add a new device:
Open Night Owl Protect
Tap the + button
Select Scan QR Code
Point camera at QR code on device
Wait for connection (10-30 seconds)
Name your device
Assign to a room/location
Tip
The QR code is usually located on the device body, base, or in the quick start guide.
Adding via Device IDο
If QR scanning doesnβt work:
Tap + β Manual Setup
Select device type:
Camera
NVR/DVR
Doorbell
Enter Device ID (found on device label)
Enter device password (default or custom)
Tap Connect
Adding WiFi Camerasο
Smart Config Modeο
Ensure camera is in setup mode (indicator blinking)
Open app β + β Smart Config
Enter your WiFi name and password
Wait for connection
Configure camera settings
AP Mode (Direct Connection)ο
Put camera in AP mode (press reset 5 seconds)
Go to phone WiFi settings
Connect to camera hotspot (Night_Owl_XXXXX)
Return to Night Owl Protect
Tap + β AP Mode Setup
Enter your home WiFi credentials
Camera connects to your network
Adding Wired Camerasο
PoE Cameras (NVR)ο
Connect camera to NVRβs PoE port
Camera powers on automatically
Open Night Owl Protect
Go to your NVR
Camera appears in device list
Configure camera settings
BNC Cameras (DVR)ο
Connect BNC cable from camera to DVR
Connect power adapter to camera
Camera appears on DVR channel
Access via Night Owl Protect
Adding Additional Recordersο
New NVR/DVRο
Complete initial recorder setup
Connect to internet
In Night Owl Protect, tap +
Scan QR code or enter manually
Enter admin password
All connected cameras appear automatically
Troubleshootingο
Camera Wonβt Connectο
Ensure camera is in setup mode (LED blinking)
Check WiFi password is correct
Verify 2.4GHz network (many cameras donβt support 5GHz)
Move closer to router
Restart camera and try again
QR Code Not Scanningο
Clean camera lens
Improve lighting
Hold phone steady
Try entering Device ID manually
Device Shows Offlineο
Check power connection
Verify network connectivity
Restart device
Check router firewall settings
